The Watauga Association of Genealogists will hold its next monthly meeting at the Johnson City Public Library and via Zoom on

Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.

TOPIC:   “NORTHEAST TENNESSEE PIONEER, LEONARD BOWERS”
Guest Speaker:  Author Roger Bowers

The Watauga Association of Genealogists (WAGS) will feature author Roger
Bowers, a genealogist-history buff, as he presents the program, “Life and Descendants
of Leonard Bowers,” at the Johnson City Public Library, on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Leonard Bowers, Revolutionary War soldier and early Northeast Tennessee
pioneer, is an ancestor of author Roger Bowers. Join us to hear the history of the
Bowers Family entrance into the heart of Appalachia. Whether you have Bowers
heritage or simply an interest in one of the early settler families, come to hear a local
lineage that will be useful for the professional genealogist as well as the amateur history buff.

Roger Bowers, a Carter County native, has lived in many areas of the U.S.
before retiring to Tennessee. He and his wife channeled their research about the life
and descendants of Leonard Bowers into a historical, factual book which is a
tremendous aid for others with genealogical connections to the East Tennessee Bowers
family.

An engaging person, Bowers has always created laughter. He performed as
Bozo the Clown, on WJHL-TV during 1960-61 and appeared in community theaters and
various functions throughout the States. Bowers has written and performed skits for live
broadcasts as well as having had a career in marketing and management.
